UK261 or EU261? Which rules apply to your flight after Brexit

Since Brexit the UK has its own version of the passenger-rights rules, called UK261. It is very close to the EU rules, but the amounts are in pounds and the flights covered are not identical.

Which flights UK261 covers

UK261 generally covers flights departing from a UK airport with any airline, and flights arriving in the UK from abroad when the airline is a UK carrier.

Which flights EU261 covers

EU261 generally covers flights departing from an EU airport with any airline, and flights arriving in the EU when the airline is an EU carrier. A flight between the UK and the EU can therefore fall under one regime or both.

Amounts and time limits

UK261 compensation is £220, £350 or £520 depending on the distance. EU261 is paid in euros: 250, 400 or 600. You generally cannot claim under both for the same flight, so choose the regime that fits the flight and your situation.
