Missed connecting flight: can you claim UK261 compensation?

Missing a connection because your first flight was late can leave you stranded for hours. Compensation is possible when the whole journey was on one booking.

Check my compensation

No win, no fee: 25% of the compensation, VAT included, no other fees, only if we win your claim. FlightClaimHQ is a trading name of TETRIS GROUP LLC.

Single booking is the key

If both flights were booked together on one reservation, what matters is the delay at your final destination, not at the connecting airport. If you arrive three hours or more late, you may be entitled to compensation.

How the amount is calculated

The distance used is generally the distance between your first departure airport and your final destination, not the sum of the two flights. The amounts are £220, £350 or £520 depending on that distance.

Separate bookings

If you booked the two flights separately, the second airline is generally not responsible for a delay on the first flight, so you will usually have no claim for the missed connection.

Frequently asked questions

Does UK261 apply if my first flight left from outside the UK?

It depends on the departure airport and the airline. Flights leaving the UK are covered, and flights arriving in the UK are covered when operated by a UK airline.

What if I was rebooked and arrived less than three hours late?

Fixed compensation is generally due only if you arrive three hours or more late, but you are still entitled to care while you wait.

What documents do I need?

Your booking reference showing both flights, boarding passes and any message from the airline about the delay.
