Naples airport closed for all of November 2026: what happens to flights from the UK

Published · FlightClaimHQ

Naples Capodichino airport will close to all commercial flights from Sunday 1 to Monday 30 November 2026 while its runway and taxiways are rebuilt, Travel Extra and Travel Quotidiano report. Some airlines are moving Naples services to Salerno Costa d'Amalfi airport, others are cancelling or rerouting passengers via Rome. The closure is planned and confirmed, so passengers booked to or from Naples in November should check their bookings now.

What is happening

According to Travel Extra, airport operator GESAC is carrying out a full rehabilitation of the main runway and connected taxiways, under the oversight of the civil aviation authority ENAC, at an estimated cost of around 19.4 to 20 million euros. The works were originally planned for early 2026 and were moved to November, historically the quietest month for traffic at the airport. All arrivals and departures are suspended for the month.

Which flights move to Salerno

Zon.it Napoli published on 23 October a list of routes transferred to Salerno for November. It includes easyJet to Milan Malpensa, ITA Airways to Milan Linate, Vueling to Barcelona, Iberia to Madrid, Transavia to Paris Orly and Amsterdam, Eurowings to Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, Luxair to Luxembourg, Air Arabia to Casablanca, Air Cairo and Neos to Sharm el-Sheikh and flydubai to Dubai. Travel Extra reports that Lufthansa Group carriers are suspending Naples flights for November and that some passengers are being rerouted via Rome Fiumicino, with a train or bus onward to Campania.

No route to or from the United Kingdom appears on the Salerno list published by Zon.it, and the sources we reviewed do not detail what UK airlines are doing with their Naples flights in November. Passengers booked on a direct UK flight should expect it to be cancelled, moved or rerouted, and should check the airline's latest information rather than rely on an older itinerary.

Practical points

Salerno airport lies on the Amalfi Coast side of Campania, south-east of Naples. If your flight now uses Salerno or Rome, plan the extra journey time to your hotel or cruise port. Travel Extra notes that November hotel bookings in Naples are down by more than 40 percent, with tourism operators asking for a coordinated transport plan.

Your rights

If a cancellation is notified at least 14 days before departure, the fixed compensation of £220, £350 or £520 under UK261, or €250, €400 or €600 under EU261, is generally not due. You are still entitled to a full refund or an alternative flight. If the airline reroutes you to a different airport serving the same area, it may have to cover the transfer. Compensation can apply if a flight is cancelled less than 14 days before departure or arrives 3 hours or more late, depending on the facts and the reason given.

If your flight is disrupted, FlightClaimHQ can check your case and handle the claim for you.
